Aaron Gartlan – My Story

Personal Injury Lawyer Serving Clients in Dothan, Alabama, and Nationwide

Since earning his law degree in 2000, attorney Aaron Gartlan has dedicated his career to helping injured people and families stand up to insurance companies, corporations, and other powerful organizations.

As the founder of Gartlan Injury Law, Aaron focuses his practice almost exclusively on personal injury cases. He represents people facing medical expenses, lost wages, physical pain, and uncertainty about what comes next after an accident changes their lives.

Aaron believes injured people deserve more than an attorney who processes their claim. They deserve someone who listens to them, understands what their family is experiencing, and remains personally invested in helping them move forward.

“The thing that sets us apart is individual, personalized attention,” Aaron says. “We value our clients as people and truly want to do what’s best and what’s right in their time of need.”

More Than 25 Years of Legal Experience

While completing his undergraduate and legal education, Aaron served as a field artillery sergeant in the Alabama National Guard. His military service helped reinforce the values that continue to guide his legal practice, including preparation, discipline, responsibility, leadership, and commitment to others.

While attending Thomas Goode Jones School of Law, he also gained hands-on legal experience. He worked for a law firm throughout law school, learning the foundations of client representation and legal practice, before earning his Juris Doctor in 2000.

After graduating, Aaron embarked on the professional path that led to him establishing Gartlan Injury Law. For more than 25 years, he has helped people seeking compensation for injuries and losses caused by the negligence and wrongdoing of others. His practice includes matters involving:

Aaron understands that the consequences of an injury extend beyond physical pain. An accident can keep someone from working, create major medical expenses, and threaten a family’s financial security. The stress can be immense.

“A great case for us is when we can help a family pick up the pieces,” he says. “I cherish having an opportunity to help people at their most vulnerable point, to give them the help that they need to hopefully bring about some closure. Sometimes, it can make the difference between saving the family home or losing it.”

Results for Injured People and Their Families

Aaron and our team at Gartlan Injury Law have represented clients in significant personal injury, workplace accident, wrongful death, motor vehicle, defective product, and insurance claims. Our results include:

  • $1.5 million settlement involving claims arising from the alleged mismanagement of a Hale County dairy farm
  • Policy-limits settlement for an Alabama man seriously injured in a motorcycle crash caused by a drunk driver who had allegedly been overserved at a local bar
  • Policy-limits settlement for a Dothan man who suffered severe head trauma and lost a loved one in a head-on collision
  • Confidential wrongful death settlement for the family of a worker killed in an industrial accident involving a large corporation
  • Confidential settlement for a woman who suffered debilitating injuries from a dangerous pelvic mesh implant

These results reflect our firm’s experience handling complex claims involving serious injuries, corporate defendants, disputed insurance coverage, and devastating losses. However, they do not guarantee a particular result in another case. Every case depends on its unique facts and circumstances.

A Commitment to Helping Hardworking Families

Aaron knew from a young age that he wanted to become a lawyer and pursue work that would make a meaningful difference in people’s lives.

“Growing up in a mobile home park, around good, solid, hardworking family people really made an impression on me early in life,” Aaron recalls. “It truly shaped who I am as a man and as a lawyer.”

After graduating from Dothan High School, Aaron attended Wallace Community College. He later completed his undergraduate studies at Troy University, graduating with honors after concentrating in social science.

Aaron entered Thomas Goode Jones School of Law intending to become a plaintiff’s personal injury lawyer. That commitment became even more personal when his father, Robert, died during Aaron’s first year of law school.

Robert had been unable to work for several years following a heart attack. Aaron saw first-hand how illness, disability, and lost income could affect not only one person but an entire family. The experience strengthened his determination to represent people whose health and financial stability had been threatened by circumstances beyond their control.

Academic Achievement and Legal Education

While attending Thomas Goode Jones School of Law, Aaron distinguished himself academically. He served on the law review and earned 11 academic awards before receiving his J.D. in 2000.

Aaron later returned to the classroom as an adjunct instructor of business law at Troy University’s Sorrell College of Business. His teaching role allows him to share his legal knowledge and practical experience with the next generation of business professionals.

He also believes in sharing his legal knowledge and insights with the wider public. Aaron is behind the “In the Trials” podcast. The podcast features guests who answer questions on a variety of legal topics, such as what to expect in a personal injury case and what to do if you believe you were wrongfully fired or discriminated against at work.

Standing Up to Insurance Companies and Corporations

A student of biblical teaching, Aaron has often described David and Goliath as his favorite story from the Bible. He sees a connection between that story and his work representing injured people against large insurance companies and corporations.

Injured clients often enter the legal process with fewer financial resources, less information, and far less experience than the organizations handling their claims or defending against them. Aaron works to level that playing field by helping clients understand their rights, investigating how their injuries occurred, and pursuing compensation for the ways an accident has affected their lives.

For Aaron, a case is never only about a claim number or settlement figure. It is about helping an individual or family regain stability after an unexpected loss.

Dedicated to Personal Attention and Consistent Communication

Aaron believes effective representation begins with listening. Gartlan Injury Law emphasizes personal attention, consistent communication, and an understanding of how an injury has affected each client’s health, employment, family, and future.

As one former client, Dee, says in one of our firm’s many testimonials

“Mr. Gartlan is an excellent attorney. He is professional, knowledgeable, and caring for his clients. He and his staff made sure we were aware of all options and what they entailed. He met with us one-on-one on several occasions as well as kept us informed with emails and phone calls. He went out of his way to help us. We obtained the decision we had hoped for by following the directions given to us by Mr. Gartlan. He was a pleasure to work with, and if we were ever needing an attorney in the future, he would be our first choice.”

Rather than applying the same strategy to every claim, Aaron works to understand each client’s circumstances and determine the appropriate approach for that individual or family.

Aaron’s Professional Recognition and Leadership

As a result of his work, Aaron has received recognition from national legal organizations. He also maintains memberships in many professional associations serving plaintiffs and the Alabama legal community. His distinctions and affiliations include:

Life Outside the Law

Outside of his legal practice and teaching responsibilities, Aaron enjoys spending time with family and friends, cooking out, visiting the lake and beach, and exercising. He is also a big-time pro wrestling history buff. He and his wife, Suzanne, have three children: Carlton, Ashton, and Alexa Grace.
