Bill began his career investigating vehicle crashes and mishaps as a police officer in Auburn, Alabama. In 2003, he began work as a consultant in accident investigation and reconstruction. In 2006, he founded Messerschmidt Safety Consultants with the purpose of applying scientific principles to mishap prevention and forensic accident investigations. Bill, an Auburn University alumnus, has investigated and reconstructed crashes in Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee, Georgia, and across the United States from New York City, New York, to Los Angeles, California and has taken part in the investigation and reconstruction of hundreds of vehicle crashes and traffic accidents. He is widely recognized as one of the nation's top experts in the forensic analysis of data from Event Data Recorders (EDR) in heavy trucks and Commercial Motor Vehicles. He developed and co-teaches How to Interpret Commercial Vehicle Event Data Recorders (EDRs) through the University of Tulsa, and he has been an invited speaker across the United States on the subject of "Black Box" or EDR data.
